TASC Blueprint Facts Sheet- Science
by TASC
TASC test is designed to assess the high school performance expectations in the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). A PDF of the NGSS arranged by Disciplinary Core Idea is available online at:
http://www.nextgenscience.org/next-generation-science-standards
The NGSS performance expectations state what all learners should be able to do in order to demonstrate their understanding of science. Each NGSS performance expectation integrates a Science and Engineering Practice, one or more Disciplinary Core Ideas, and a Crosscutting Concept. Each NGSS performance expectation also includes a Clarification Statement and an Assessment Boundary to provide further information for the purposes of curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
TASC test Science assessments include items for the disciplines of Physical Sciences, Life Sciences, and Earth and Space Sciences. Each discipline is subdivided into several Core Ideas, which each contain multiple performance expectations. Each test item assesses one performance expectation. Items may require recalling knowledge, applying knowledge and skills, or reasoning.
The number of test items per Core Idea is proportional to the number of performance expectations within the Core Idea. As a result, each Core Idea will have about 2-5 items on a given test. A given test will not necessarily include items for every performance expectation present in the NGSS, though any performance expectation is potentially assessable.
TASC Blueprint Facts Sheet- Social Studies
by TASC
Without a common core for social studies, TASC test will use national standards created by groups that specialize in four of the five domains that the test will assess: U.S. History, World History, Civics and Government, and Economics. CTB/McGraw-Hill is creating a content framework that draws domain standards from the following national resources: National Center for History in the School, National Standards for History Basic Edition, 1996; Center for Civic Education, National Standards for Civics and Government, 2010;Economics- Council for Economic Education, Voluntary National Content Standards in Economics, 2nd Edition.
For the Geography domain, CTB wrote the targets for TASC test based on the standards created by the National Council for the Social Studies and the National Council for Geographic Education. After identifying these targets for TASC test framework, the Social Studies team at CTB conducted an analysis of the targets by comparing them to a few states’
* high school standards for these domains, as well as the GED® tests for 2002 and 2014.
**We compared the TASC test Framework to the high school standards for the following states: Florida (US History, World History, Civics and Government, Geography, Economics), New York* (US History, World History), California (US History, Civics and Government), Texas (World History, Civics and Government, Geography, Economics), Missouri (Civics and Government, Geography), Arizona (Economics, US History), New Mexico (Geography) New Hampshire (Geography ) Massachusetts (Economics), Maine (World History), New Jersey (World History)
TASC test emphasizes the targets for social studies that appear most frequently on state standards for the specified domains, as indicated by the categories in the below "High Emphasis" category.
Concepts in the "Medium Emphasis" items will be fully assessed within TASC test as well, though there will be fewer questions aligned to these standards.
The "Low Emphasis" category will have no more than one or two items on any given test.
TASC Blueprint Facts Sheet- Writing
by TASC
TASC test emphasizes the Common Core State Standards for Language (Grades 7-12 accumulative) and Writing (Grades 11-12) that are the most relevant to College and Career Readiness, as indicated by the categories in the below "High Emphasis" category.
Concepts in the "Medium Emphasis" items will be fully assessed within TASC test as well, though there will be fewer questions aligned to these standards.
No standards that are categorized by the Common Core State Standards as "advanced" will be directly assessed on the TASC test.
TASC Blueprint Facts Sheet- Math
by TASC
TASC test emphasizes the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics that are the most relevant to College and Career Readiness, as indicated by the categories in the below "High Emphasis" category. Concepts in the "Medium Emphasis" items will be fully assessed within TASC test as well, though there will be fewer questions aligned to these standards.
The "Low Emphasis" category will have no more than one or two items on any given test. Since TASC test is fully aligned to the Common Core, basic familiarity with these concepts may be assessed.
The Standards for Mathematical Practice, as well as the High School Modeling domain, are not separately assessed and reported on TASC test, but are skills that are incorporated throughout the assessment of the content standards.
No standards that are categorized by the Common Core State Standards as "advanced" will be directly assessed on TASC test.
TASC BluePrint Facts Sheet- Reading
by TASC
